Hello, I am Maylee Chang. I am a qualified Licensed Professional Counselor who graduated from Northwestern College and Wheaton College Graduate School. My personal and professional experience has provided me the experience necessary to effectively work with elementary age children, at-risk adolescents, families, and adults with varied needs from many ethnicities in community, school, and clinic settings. Some of the areas where I can give my professional support are as follows but not limited to: traumatic events such as physical abuse, sexual abuse, assault, neglect, catastrophe, abandonment, terrifying experience, medical trauma, grief, immigration, war, and refugee experiences; shifts in family structure related to divorce, remarriage, child protection involvement, foster care, custody, and grandparent taking on a grandchild; and life transitions such as acculturation and adolescent/young adult identity formation.
Other issues I have worked with include low self-esteem, relational conflict, sibling conflict, aggression, suicidal ideation, anxiety, depression, autism, PTSD, ADHD, ODD, RAD, Bipolar Disorder, and Dissociative Disorders.
I work from a biopsychosocial perspective and draw from my extensive professional training and experience surrounding evidence-based therapies utilizing Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused-Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Behavioral Analysis, Cognitive Restructuring, Mindfulness/Relaxation Training, and Strength-Based Therapy, along with Insight-Oriented Therapy. I have experience and training with TF-CBT for children and adolescents who have experienced a variety of traumas.
In addition to my qualifications, I am a fluent Hmong speaker and available for speaking engagements surrounding topics involving refugees, Hmong culture, biculturalism as related to Mental Health. I also speak Thai. Along with Thai people, I can work with Thai speaking Karen and Lao people. Please feel free to give me a call for a free 15 minute consultation.
