When it involves the process of relating to a spouse, we have to understand what is being said verses what is implied. Interpreting what I am hearing involves my biases, my past experiences, and insecurities. I have to remember that there can be a difference between what was said and what I am hearing. How many times has there been an offense because of a miss interpretation of a message from one person to another based on past offenses.

2. Packaging – How we say what we say! Packaging your message correctly highly influences a chance for a positive result.
3. Verifying message received – Asking the person you are communicating what they heard you say has the potential to clear up a plethora of misconceptions.
