As of fall 2021, I am a graduate student at Crown College, working towards getting my Master of Arts in Counseling. The first two years in this program are purely academic where I will be completing classes online. The third year of my Masters program is a practicum where I will be placed under supervision of a licensed therapist - like Bernie - and begin practicing what I have learned in class.
Outside of work and school I volunteer at HIS Haven Ranch where I help run programs for kids ages 5+, where we use horses and Christian faith to help kids and families who are experiencing some life challenges. Before working for Family Revelations I worked for Union Gospel Mission for 4 years. One summer I ran the day camp for 6-11 year olds and the following years I collaborated with TreeHouse to start a program for middle school and high school teens in the Frogtown neighborhood of St. Paul. I lead weekly Support Groups for teens where I helped teens talk openly about their feelings and practiced what it looks like to give support and encouragement to their peers. It is these job and volunteer experiences that have led me to get my Masters in Counseling so that I can help kids, teens, and young adults overcome hurts and traumas so they can live life to the fullest.

My goal as a counselor will be to provide a safe space for kids, teens, and young adults to process whatever troubles they are facing in this ever changing world. Many techniques and approaches can be used in counseling. I am most interested in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), existential therapy, and narrative therapy. However, first and foremost, I am most interested in the client-centered approach because it emphasizes focusing on the client's strengths while counselor and client work together to develop a treatment plan that best fits the client. I believe each client is a unique individual with unlimited potential to become their best self! Counseling is a tool to help clients get where they want to go and to get there in a healthy and whole manner.

I am a part of the marketing team at Family Revelations! I have always been passionate about mental illness, addiction, trauma, etc. As someone who has dealt with mental illness in my own way, I wanted to find a way for others to feel comfortable reaching out for help. I found that Bernie and his team have valued their clients individual process and offered successful tactics for each individual. Instead of another person down the line, they see each person as an individual and acknowledge that each process is different. Working along with Family Revelations, I update our websites information, design pages, and work alongside our therapists to convey our mission to our clients. I am so excited to be joining this team and working alongside such kind, caring individuals.
